What does "soul sister" actually mean?

The term itself can mean a lot of different things. Anyaway, the real meaning for this word is a black person's female, a black friend. I mean, it means an African-American woman (which is its most common use). Being a soul sister means you are eternally bonded spiritually from that point forward and you never ever have to feel like you're alone again.
But for the song itself, it means a person, in this case a woman, who is this person's soul mate. They are so alike that he considers her a person similar to the beliefs in his soul.
