In August, The U.S. Consulate in Rio launched the English program UP with English, a course for youth between the ages of 13 and 18 that focuses on spoken English as a tool for the job market. With upcoming mega events including the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, international tourism to Rio is expected to grow substantially. Thousands of jobs that require English language skills are expected to be created and English will be an important tool that students of “UP with English” will be able to bring to the job market.
